Our very own tv star!

May 17, 2013 in Food24Ed posts

Hi lovelies,

In case you haven’t already been glued to SABC 3 at 4pm on Sunday’s, here’s a really good reason to start.

Our very own blogger and food24 food writer, Sarah Graham has a TV show, named after her successful book, ‘bitten’.

She’s simply fabulous and we’re super duper proud of our golden girl.

Unable to keep recipes in a book and her fingers out of the pots and pans, we just love that Sarah fired away with her new TV food show on SABC3 called Bitten: Sarah Graham Cooks Cape Town which premiered on the 5th of May 2013. She invites us into her home and kitchen like dear friends, where we experience the true essence of sharing, making you nostalgic about foods still to be tasted and people you haven’t met.

“There is something so profoundly simple and satisfying about sharing food with friends and family,” Sarah concludes.

Take a look at some behind the scenes pics…

Calling all the coffee drinkers!

April 12, 2013 in Food24Ed posts

If you don’t drink the java – then stop reading and rather click on some recipes.

Coffee lovers, I think we can all agree on one thing… people who don’t drink coffee… are just plain weird. I never screw up my face so much as when someone tells me “no, I don’t drink coffee” then sends me clean under with “or tea”.  Who ARE these people?

So, we are going to be introducing a lovely little coffee section to Food24… (cue thunderous applause) for all you fans of the bean.

And even though we think that we are something of coffee nuts here at Food24,  apparently being able to operate a Nespresso machine does not an expert make.

Basically folks, we need some coffee connoisseurs on board.  I know that there’s a bunch of you fanatics out there overflowing with priceless information and we’d like to pick your brains and perhaps publish your ramblings. Read more…

Karoo roadtrip

April 2, 2013 in Food24Ed posts

So I  went to a wedding this weekend in the MIDDLE of the Karoo. On a farm about 50km from Colesburg (yes, that is indeed the closest town). It was utterly beautiful, blissful and magical.

My friend Katy got married to Gregg Bailey on the Bailey farm Poortjie.

First off we were like “we have to drive HOW many kilometres”  with this view…

(actually this is a picture from the way back and for the record it is a beautiful view)

And when we finally got there after passing 25 farms called Nabygenoeg or Vergenoeg my whole body breathed a giant sigh and let go of every negative, stressful thought I have had since Christmas. I highly recommend a trip to the Karoo. And if you do go then you should definitely stay where we stayed – The Paddocks at Kuilfontein – just 10km outside of Colesburg.

We had a beautiful dinner of Karoo lamb and veggies and 2 bottles of red wine for R205 a head. If you dont mind a 9 hour drive from Cape Town then this is the place to go for some R&R.

Wat Pomp?

So – a 12 out of 10 weekend – I’m deducting points for the squeaky windmill RIGHT outside my bedroom and nothing else.

Check out this action at the local ATM…

“But you heard that money grows on trees, right?’ “meh”

Please share some of your favourite Karoo memories with us?

No more buying alcohol on Sundays!

March 18, 2013 in Food24Ed posts

Our fabulous wine Ed, Cathy Marston has done some brilliant journalism and broke the news on the up and coming liquor laws to be announced April 1st.
There are some rather shocking new laws that might be coming into action.

“Some drinkers seem to be dimly aware that there is new liquor legislation being put into place around the country at the moment, but there appears to be general confusion as to what is changing, when it will take place and – most importantly, how it will affect them.

The law is complex and multi-layered, so I spoke with Danie Cronje who is a Director of Liquor Law Services at Stellenbosch firm Cluver Markotter Inc and who has plenty to say on the subject. Read more…
