Soothing Roasted Vegetables and a Little Recognition

April 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

We all have a place that we go to when we need alone time or simply time to nurture ourselves, away from the noise and the business of our everyday lives. Everyone has their own “go to” space. Today whilst walking the dog I was thinking about Penny de los Santos’ talk on TED. She was saying how life is made up of moments. As a photographer, she tries to capture those little moments. Often, those little moments happen in a split second.  Far too many of us never find the moments in our lives just to be. To savour the moment. We are so busy running around, doing the shopping, our chores and generally meeting the demands of everyday modern life that we forget to take a moment and just be.

Muffins, a favourite quick snack

April 10, 2012 in Food intolerance, Muffins

Once upon a time there was The Muffin Man. I think I will soon be referred to as The Muffin Lady. Muffins are one of those treats that are loaded with benefits.

1. They are quick and easy to make.

2. They travel well, so make great additions for lunch boxes and picnics.

3. No need to slice or cut.

4. They can be as simple or as complicated as you wish.

Is food intolerance getting you down?

April 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

Recently, I finally found a rare breed of GP. One who is also qualified in Nutritional Medicine. Now that’s unusual and quite frankly long over due. Even though I have been off gluten, dairy and sugar for over a year, many of my candida symptoms have not cleared up. In fact some of them have reared their ugly heads again. This is incredibly frustrating especially when after all the effort I have put into my diet, my health is still struggling. At least I do now know which foods I have to avoid since taking the Imu Pro 300 test. The doctor also suggested I do some other tests to find out what exactly is going on in my gut.

Is it the latest craze or are more and more people realising that their suffering and symptoms may/ are food related?

It’s not too late to get your health and body back not to mention your kids

February 5, 2012 in Uncategorized

Every month I receive a complimentary copy of Aquarius magazine on my doorstep. The last time Aquarius got me thinking and blogging I spilled the contents of my heart in my post about blogging. This time they’ve got me thinking again. Should parents put their kids on a diet? There were arguments for and against this. As you may know, I am not one to shy away from issues regarding food and how it affects children. Let me say firstly that I agreed with both arguments.

A Christmas fraught with accidents and festive treats for allergy sufferers

December 30, 2011 in Uncategorized

The festive season is known to be fraught with visitors, cooking and baking deadlines and of course shopping for the perfect gifts for family and friends. It’s an especially hectic time of year as I am sure you can testify to. This year had two added elements for us. Firstly, for the first time we actually have family living in the same town which is just amazing. My brother and sister-in-law have moved to Dubai complete with my nephew and nieces. The second, was much more stressful.

Vegan Tropical Berry Muffins

Imagine being invited to a restuarant by a friend only to discover that you cannot eat anything from the menu.  This is what it is like for people with allergies. I’ve been on the candida diet for about 10 months now so I no longer feel dissappointed when I am faced with something I cannot eat. I simply get on with it and focus on the things I can eat. For a child who has been following an elimination diet for three months, it’s early days.

What is it about blogging?

November 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

No, I haven’t died, I’ve just had a bit of a hibernation of sorts. Sometimes I need a bit of time out to think through all my “stuff”. To sort it out and figure out where I am going. Don’t you feel that way too sometimes? No? Well, count yourself lucky.

Our local Aquarius magazine here in Dubai featured an article about blogging this month. Interesting and thought provoking. Yes, I am a bit of a thinker. Or perhaps just a major procrastinator. One of the things that got me thinking was why people and more specifically why I started this blog.
