Pizza, pasta and panna cotta fest at… Cal Cacchio’s Foreshore

August 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

Hi everyone,

If you’re a great lover all things Italian, then what I’m about to inform you of is like a gift handed down from the culinary gods.

Col’ Cacchio’s, the Italian pizzeria has teamed up with 6 of South Africa’s top Celebrity chefs and each month a gourmet pizza is the main feature on the menu.

Last month had me whetting my appetite with a bottle of Diemersfontein, a gigantic bowl of Bianca Funghi penne pasta (think creamy, mushshroomy and eye-rollingly delectable) the ‘La Zizou‘ and the créme de la créme of desserts, Chocolate lindt panna cotta.

Now the ‘La Zizou‘ is the foodchild of internationally acclaimed, chef Franck Dangeroux and this pizza was to die for!

I literally had to restrain myself from licking the crumbs off the plate. Somewhat embarrasing when you’re not alone either. As the guest of the ever-gentlemanly owner of the Foreshore Col’ Cacchio’s branch, Michael, I had to hold back.

With every ingredient as fresh as can be, this 7 hour (7 HOURS people!) lamb stew, balsamic cherry tomatoes, spring onion, fresh garlic, fresh basil topped with basil pesto mayonnaise was a definite Wintery July winner.

This pizza fest has a fantastic cause behind it too and with every pizza bought, R5 will be donated to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital with 100% of the donations contributing to the upgrade of the Burns Unit.

This month sees chef Nicky Gibbs and her awesome ‘El Gaucho‘, Authentic Argentinean style steak stew, chimichurri, fresh rocket, freshly sliced red onion and Rossa drizzled with olive oil.

And just to get you going… Chocolate Lindt Panna Cotta (YUMMY)

I’m heading out as soon as the noon gun pops so that I can dash out to get this months featured pizza. Hey? It’s for a good cause, so eat as much as you can, invite friends and family and indulge with gusto. Pronto.

Lots of love and pizza crusts,

Lauren
