SUNDAY BLESSED SUNDAY

December 21, 2008 in Uncategorized

It seems to have been a long day…….the heat has blazed, nary a leaf moving, the flies buzz listlessly around looking for a spot of food to land on but browniegirl has them sussed, the heat shimmers over the mountain at the back of our house, the overhead fan creaks as it turns on its own axis trying to at least move the air around, forget about  cooling it down. MIL has gone to be with the newlyweds :o ), hubs and stepson (SS) have worked their butts off in the garden, brownie is coughing up a storm….gee I wish it would go now. but I am feeling a lot better this evening despite the incessant barking.
It is that time of day now where the sun is slowly slipping away across the Atlantic, a very slight south easterly breeze is flirting lightly with the leaves of the big old tree in the garden, everything looks all spiffy and newly watered, the pool is sparkling in the shade, dog is sitting here panting for her supper, the guinea fowl are wending their way raucously home to the Norfolk pine tree over the road, the crows nesting at the top are already home, cawing noisily as they settle in for the night….a hadedah is slowly working its way across the garden, poking its long beak into the newly cut and watered lawn, hubs and SS are away at the Carol Service….phooey, poor browniegirl would disrupt everything with that rasping cough so had to give it a miss this year  :o( but hmmmmmm sipping a delicious refreshing home made Lemonade on the patio is pretty relaxing stuff. So here is the recipe for all those who made the Limoncello and didnt know what to do with all the gorgeously naked lemons hehe……..and all those who dont do the alcohol bit…..make the lemonade kids…good old-fashioned lemonade. Mixed with soda water or water and lots of ice…..hmmmmm refreshing on a hot day!!

Juice from 12 lemons and thinly peeled zest from 2
1,2kg Granulated Sugar
2 litres Boiling Water
15ml Tartaric Acid
10ml Citric Acid

In a large saucepan pour the water over the zest and boil for 2 minutes Strain off the zest then return water to saucepan. Add the rest of the ingredients. Stir until all sugar has completely dissolved then bring to a rapid boil and boil for 4 minutes. Allow to cool then bottle and seal well. Should keep for a couple of weeks….but not in my house, not in this heat when there are so many thirsty throats to wet :o )

Have a wonderful week everybody……
