 It’s been a bit of a crazy busy week and I have not had the time to post a new blog – enjoyed answering Pink’s Friday’s quiz. One has to admire Pink for making the time to come up with these interesting quizzes which are so educational as well.

Chowder is cream based and thick and soup is much thinner and usually broth based.

Preserves are fruit cooked with sugar where large chunks of fruit or whole fruit are in syrup base and the texture is not smooth like jelly or jam.

Conserve is a mixture of more than one fruit that is cooked until it becomes thick and is used as a spread.

Not from Jerusalem and not related to artichokes. It looks like a knobbly pink skinned ginger root and is from North America and is related to the sunflower.

Southern Africa.

1. What is hyssop?

Hyssop is a sacred plant used in Judaism and has a minty taste.

1. What is Cape pondweed better known as?

Water hawthorn

1. What does gratinéed means in culinary terms?

Onions cooked on slow heat until an even deep golden brown – can take up to 40 minutes.

1. What is dombolo better known as?

I am guessing it is a dumpling.

10. Why is raita served with curries?

The yoghurt based raita acts as a cooling accompaniment to hot curries.

Pink had awarded me with a lovely blog award and the result is that I have to give 7 random info about myself (my apologies, Pink, for the delay in responding – it’s been a bit busy recently) – so here goes.

Love listening to music – think it is a necessity like breathing.
