The Colonel’s Fried Tomatoes

Perfectly plump and ready to use

Colonel Harland Sanders’ 11 secret herbs and spices have  kept cooks guessing for ages. Every now and then someone claims to have the exact recipe or at least their version of his delicious fried chicken. Heck, even I have tried guessing at least a couple of those 11 herbs and I got a “Mom, this chicken tastes just like KFC!” When I heard that KFC is releasing the colonel’s autobiography and his recipes, I was delighted to say the least! The book is free and KFC made it available on their Facebook page, which I think is a brilliant idea!
I downloaded the book with great expectations, after all, at last I would be able to make my hubby’s all time favorite take-away food, just like the Colonel. At first glance, I was a tad disappointed when I could not find the secret 11 herbs and spices for fried chicken anywhere in the book, but I found a whack of other delicious Southern style recipes, fired tomatoes, corn bread, meatloaf, stuffed pork chops, yum, yum, yum!
The recipes I tried were truly delicious and I like the simplicity of  the food, nothing fancy and difficult, which fits right in with the philosophy of this blog.

Crispy and golden - ready to eat?
