Ilse Fourie’s Mediterranean Smoked Kipper Quiche

August 7, 2012 in Uncategorized

The last post I wrote about Ilse Fourie‘s Butter Chicken, the standard comment was: “Beautiful….and the food isn’t bad either!” I got it! Loud and clear, with Ilse in the kitchen, my food and photography were taking  back seats and just because she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, I was ok with that! Today I  am sharing her delicious Smoked Kipper quiche recipe and I expect profuse drooling, not only for her, but for the quiche too!
During last week’s Easy Cooking Housewife Challenge, Ilse received Mediterranean Smoked Kippers and Mature Dutch Gouda cheese in her mystery basket.Dumbfounded at first, but after serious contemplation with Sue-Ann Allen (runner up Masterchef SA 2012), she felt inspired enough to create this masterpiece. It was a delicious quiche, she added just enough smoked quiche to give it a very subtle smokiness without overpowering it.With just enough cream, milk, eggs and  cheese to bring it all together, the result was a light, fluffy, eggy quiche….divine!!

Sexy Salsa Breakfast Wraps on RSG

Sexy Salsa Breakfast Wraps

( Click on link above for recipe)

A Healthy, but delicious breakfast option

Sexy Salsa Breakfast wraps ….I like the alliteration  of that sexy and salsa…… Sexy and salsa are normally the last two words that one would associate with healthy eating, but my guest blogger on RSG this week, puts a stop to the myth that healthy food should be bland and tasteless. She is according to her “an ordinary broad” on a quest for balance between healthy and tasty. She is ……
Monya Kilian Palmer, author of Broadbites, a qualified chef, a moonlighting artist … and a well-traveled broad! She says: “For as long as I can remember I have had a love affair with food.
Preparing it, poaching it, cooking it, chopping it, baking it, boiling it, ordering it, shopping for it, reading about it, watching shows about it … and of course – eating it!”
Well, I think you will agree with me once you’ve read her blog…..her recipes are not all very healthy, but every single one of them looks like something I would love to make. I made these delicious sexy salsa breakfast wraps for supper tonight and with a few Air Fryer potato wedges on the side, they were delicious..

Do tune in to RSG on Thursday mornings just after 9 when I share these delicious recipes.

Potato and Onion Frittata

February 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

Potato and Onion Frittata

Making this simple Potato and Onion frittata was the result of a short survey I did amongst friends, followers and family to try and find out what recipes people actually want. The answer came back and it was unanimous……..keep it simple, keep it real and you have winning recipes. Give us recipes that require few, on-hand and affordable ingredients and you will have our support, is what the public demanded. Who am I to argue……
Just last night someone gave me a recipe for a relish, I kid you not, 2 ingredients! Hah, unheard of, but I promise you, I will try it and you will be the first to know about it!
Well, some of you will be delighted to know, others maybe a little disappointed, but we are eating a little meat again. Although the majority  of our meals are still vegetarian, I am adding the odd lamb chop or beef cube to the pot. Those of you following my Facebook page may have noticed that we have a little water polo champ in our midst and he complained that he is so tired all the time. I think, even while not eating meat, we managed had quite a balanced diet, replacing the meat with legumes, green vegetables, beetroot and such, but he needed a little more sustenance.

Potato and Onion Frittata

Perfect for any occasion

Enough of that, because today’s recipes is again a meatless one, but packed with protein and certainly packed with flavor. The best part is that it has 3 simple ingredients and the rest is up to you. Shall we cook?
