In my Kitchen in January 2013

January 1, 2013 in Dinner Divas, In my kitchen

2013? I almost can not believe that 2012 is in the past now. My family and I had a wonderful 2012. My oldest daughter was primaria at her Residence at University. She finished her studies and will be getting her degree in March 2013. She applied for three jobs, totally unrelated to her studies and was invited for interviews for all three and got offers for two out of the three. She started working already and she is saying that she is doing her dream job.

My second daughter was on the House Committee at her Residence at University and is on The University’s Student Council for 2012-2013. She finished her studies and got her degree in December and was accepted for honors so she will be doing her honors in Bio-Diversity and Ecology in 2013.

My son was naughty and was not allowed to go out at all in the last term of 2012. The only thing he was allowed was to study and he ended up in the Top 10 of his year!

Although my husband had to close his own business, he got a very good position in the corporate world.

I had the great opportunity of taking part in Dinner Divas and I thoroughly enjoyed it and met some wonderful people!

I am convinced that 2013 is going to be a great and exciting year for me and I wish the same to all of you.

It is time for an In my Kitchen post. The IMK challenge is hosted by Celia from the blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.

In my kitchen are these colourful table placemats with South African towns and pictures on, another gift from my children.

In my kitchen is this cute Letterpress cookie set and I cannot wait to start playing with it but we have too many cookies left over from Christmas still. (This was another Christmas gift from my husband).

Pasta with a chicken liver sauce

August 16, 2012 in Bacon, Chicken, Food Bloggers Indaba, Pasta, Supper

I attended the Food Bloggers Indaba in June, this year. It was a great event and we received 3 bags full of delicious goodies. I have used these goodies to create wonderful food, and this pasta with chicken livers was inspired by some of the things in our bags.

I craved chicken livers for quite some time now, but since my son does not eat this, I had to wait until one night he went out. Well, he chose Tuesday night to go and watch a musical at a local school and they would also have supper there.

Although I was glad that I could finely cook chicken livers, it was also an awful night to take him to attend the show!   If you live in Cape Town, you will know that we really had violent storms and heavy rain recently. We also had some hail or ice rain, like some people described this.

Well, luckily he enjoyed his night out and we enjoyed our chicken livers!

At the FBI we received some Fairview Amazing Pinotage Rosé! VG and I opened it one night and it is one of the best Rosés, if not THE BEST, I have ever tasted. Unfortunately we could not drink all of it, so I added some to these chicken livers with some Massel’s Chicken Bouillon cubes that we also received in our goody bags. I really think this was the best chicken livers that I have ever made (or tasted).

MIM 15: Stuffed Chicken breasts wrapped in bacon

April 9, 2012 in Chicken, Meals in minutes, Poultry, Supper

I had the most wonderful Easter Weekend. We spent the weekend at home and because it was raining, the most part of the weekend was spent indoors. We cooked, baked and had fun together as a family.

We went to the movies and saw the movie Titanic. It was the first time that my children saw this in a cinema because they were too young when it was first released. Although we enjoyed it a lot, we all cried a lot. Titanic is really an epic film which I can watch over and over again.

Unfortunately the girls went back to Stellenbosch this morning and for the first time in years; I had the Sunday blues (on a Monday)! The schools are also opening again tomorrow for the second term so Boykie will be back at school. I just cannot believe that it is April already!!

I use to make a meal in minutes on Wednesday nights, but since Masterchef SA is now showing on the television on a Tuesday night I make my quick and easy meals now on a Tuesday night. This dish is very quick to prepare and also economical because boned-in chicken breasts are very affordable.

Good Friday Breakfast

April 11, 2009 in Breakfast, Tables

I cooked my marmalade, yesterday, and although it turned out a bit dark in color, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the taste. Had it for breakfast this morning, with boiled eggs, toast in the form of crosses and Hotcross buns. Started with yogurt, and finished with orange juice. Quick, easy and divine!!
