So long, and thanks for all the crayfish

January 27, 2010 in Uncategorized

Although I’m allergic, I can hardly think of a better meal to serve at a farewell supper for visitors from afar, than a laidback crayfish braai – especially if you live on the West Coast. And this is exactly what we did when our friends from Down Under – Mandy, Mike and Phoebe – visited us recently.

Mike seemed to be in his element spending his last night in Paternoster cleaning and cooking crayfish. Obviously I couldn’t partake in the crayfish part of the meal, but it didn’t make the farewell feast any less enjoyable.

My dad and Mike were in charge of the braaid crayfish, while Phoebe and I decided to do a few boiled crayfish served with sage butter.

At Oep ve Koep we’ve had a relatively quiet week. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to the Mother City for a bit longer than my previous mini holiday. So unless I get to an internet cafe while I’m there (which might be difficult between all the boozy lunches and dinners i’m planning, hehe) I’ll check in when I return on Monday… and I’m sure I’ll have lots to share.

So I guess it’s so long, and thanks for all the crayfish. But only until next week.

  7. It’s awful to be allergic to crayfish – I was allergic to shellfish but luckily grew out of it – crayfish are a real treat as are big juicey prawns. Enjoy your break – we all need to recharge our batteries every so often.

  10. Ooooh, reminds me of going crayfishing with my late uncle from Hout Bay harbour years ago, tossing the wriggling beasties into boiling water, and trying to smile as fellow boat companions heaved up fresh crayfish and mayo as quickly as what they were consuming it!
