About a Simple Breakfast, Biscuits and Peanuts…

October 22, 2010 in Uncategorized

Ahoy there me maties…aaarrhh… LOL Foot in mouth

I wish I was a pirate sailing the 7 seas, but alas Im chained to a desk instead! Guess thats still a good reason to have some rum?? Undecided

Thank you for all my blogaversary wishes – seems the celebration lasted a week!! Thank you for all the virtual cake and sharing!

Where to start!?

Breakfast always a good place I guess!

This morning (yes this morning) I made myself some breakfast, seeing as I was wide awake just before 6am (normal day for me. I have to get up at 06h30, and end up dragging myself out of bed anytime from 7am). I was all inspired and hungry and of cause in the mood for something eggy. And I decided to make some French Toast – with a slight twist.

For 1 person

1 egg

Milk (almost equal amount to egg)

Seasoning (steers, aromat)

Grated Parmesan

Tomato Sauce

More aromat…

2 slices bread (brown, white, wholewheat, Low GI, Best of both…etc)

Heat a pan, with a good spray of “(S)Pray and Cook”

In a deep dish, mix the egg, milk & seasoning till well combined (scramble egg style).

Dip each slice in the eggy mix (both sides) you can make them soggy, lightly coated, what ever suits your fancy. Just remember the more egg the bread absorbs the longer the frying/cooking time!

Pop the eggy bread into the pan…tsss…tssss… and sprinkle the top side of the bread with grated parmesan.

When the underside is beautifully browned, turn over (with the parmesan side under) and again fry until browned/ done. (this takes about 2 -3 min per side)

The parmesan makes a lovely crunchy cheesey coating!

If you are anything like me smother spread some tomato sauce over and a sprinkle of Aromat… You can still taste the cheese, and get the crispy crunch of it! ;)

About biscuits

Inspiration had the Biscuit Challenge last week – which I attempted! It was a toss up between Pinks ChocChip Bikkies and Sous Chef’s Ginger Biscuits (that would have become cinnamon biscuits, since I really dont like ginger). ChocChips won, but I did add  1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon… and totally forgot to ‘flatten’ the dough balls, and (another AND) my choc chips, turned out to be chocolate disks (the big R2 sized ‘drops’) which meant I had to chop these smaller too before adding to the dough.

Another mistake (on my part, beside now the flatten thing)..I didnt cream the butter properly, which would teach me, since I quicky wanted to make this between the 2 rugby games on Saturday afternoon – the whole swarm of bees thing did not help!!

But they still turned out awesomely yummy, just have to open wide to take yummy bites!!

I will definately try these again – and Sous’s recipe, just when I have enough time and no one shooshing me because its kick-off time (I mean really, how do you make an electric beater go softly???)

So now About a Peanut…

Some of you already knows, and others are probably guessing and a few well you are completely in the dark!! Let me shed some light…

I know its probably a bit early to tell the whole world, but its difficult to keep the news to one self!! So here goes:

Bill Gates have finally sent me some money for the email scheme incentive thingie and Im now a billionaire myself and will be retiring in about 40yrs…  (If you believe than, please post me you email address below, I’ve got a cousin in Nigeria who needs to move some funds…LOL)

Okay so Bill Gates is not sending me no money, but I will probably retire in about 40 years or less…until my zimmerframe is all rusted up..

So the BIG SECRET/NEWS is….We are having a Peanut!! (aka We* are pregnant). Still 1st Trimester, but all going well sofar!

*phew* is that a load off my shoulders!

*We = it takes 2 people to make a peanut*

Have a fantastical weekend!! Hope to pop in soon again!!

  26. Hehe – finally I could share this with you, I thought this far in, everything still going ok – should be oraait to share!! This would be our 1st, seeing as both my mom and sister ‘balooned’ after having kids – Im a wee bit concerned about the whole gaining too much weight, since I’ve got a bit extra to begin with!
Goodluck with your peanut making business, hope its as much fun for you as it was for us!! hehe *winks*

Eggs are not bad, use brown bread and parmesan is not a very oily cheese! hehe :) (doesnt that just sound healthy?)

  28. Lol…been trying with peanut making, but I;ve got PCOS, very irregular cycle…so need to be consistent and the last few nights I’ve been dog tired! So we’ll see what happens!

Dont worry about weight…I was 95kgs when I fell pregnant. Put on 11-12kgs and lost all within 10 days after having my daughter. And i was worried about being huge and I think I looked good pregnant;-) (As good as you can at that weight).

Lets not talk about what happened whilst on maternity leave that sent me to my current state of weight! lol

    Morning sickness start yet???

  29. lols..no worries Zabs!! and a Big Big Thank You!!!
*hugs back, and passes a biscuit* ;)

  30. We decided it was time (been married for 3yrs now) and then a month later TA-DA… We still thought we might have 2 or 3 months before anything will happen! hehe :)

Im at 82.5kg – I’ve already got quite the boep going (10weeks this week), dont fit into my clothes, but seems the weight stayed the same, just migrating to my tummy! Hope I wont gain too much, 10kg would be awesome!! ;)

Nope, I was expecting to be ‘bullimic mom2b’, but no morning sicness whatsoever! My sugar levels are just taking the nicky out of me – got to watch what I eat – especially the sweet things (which I dont care for much anyways!)

  31. I wouldn’t worry about that at all – animals are instinctive and protective. We had two cats when our boys were born and never experienced any trouble – i think because we made the effort to try and include them. Cats don’t like too much fuss and bother and once their initial inquisitiveness has been sorted – they watch the goings on from a distance. Have a great evening xxxx jan

  32. Piper is difficult – she’s very shy of other people, only getting used to our Sarah now – almost 2yrs on!! Can only hope the 1st ‘contact/meeting’ will go well! Hope it all turns out well!
Have a great evening too! xxx

  33. hi jy …..dis baie goeie nuus die …baie baie geluk met die kleinding wat oppad is!!! En geniet elke oomblik van jou swangerskap want die tyd gaan so vinnig om.xxxxx

  35. wow – a peanut, this is most exciting!

I had never thought of the parmesan addition to frendg toast. thansk for the tip

quick hint, butter in the microwave for a few (4-5) seconds becomes nice and soft for blending

  36. Thank you Sidey!

Im not sure myself, where that idea came from – did make perfect sense at the time, and was rather yummy!

Thanks – the butter was…softish… but I tried to make quick, so I wouldnt make noise during the rugby (you know men and their rugby). Next try, I will take my time (and soften the butter properly!) :)
