Awesome Monkeygland Sauce!
31 March 2011 in Uncategorized
There I was, pale, bordering translucent, new to the country, perusing the menu at the local steakhouse. “Monkeygland Sauce! OMG! they eat monkeys!”
I’ve learnt a lot about my adoptive country since then and upon ascertaining that no monkeys are actually involved, I now love monkeygland sauce. Fellow Natalian Jan Tripepi mentioned that they only eat oom Jan’s sauce and so I decided to try it last night with our steaks.
Well I’m telling you ….said in my best South African accent….it was to die for doll!
You have to try it, trust me it’s plate-lickable!
1 large onion chopped
2 cloves of garlic crushed
Olive oil
1/2 cup stock
2 TSP Vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp Tabasco sauce
1/2 cup Worcester sauce
1 cup Tomato sauce
1 cup chutney
2 large diced tomatoes
Fry the onion until tender, add all the other ingedients and simmer for 30 minutes.

There’s some left in the fridge, I’m sure it will go well with crumbed chicken hey?!

Then why the hell do they call it Monkeygland sauce if neither the Monkey nor its glands are involved? You foodies are just plain nuts!
