In My Kitchen – May

3 May 2012 in In My Kitchen

In my kitchen…..

Is a beautiful treasured bowl that was a gift from my brother David and sister-in-law Sally shortly before he died, it’s quirky, colourful, and very African.

In my kitchen…..

Is a novel fish tea towel and the 2012 eatin magazine, which I won on their Facebook page, you had to send up a photograph of your supper,  I sent in my saucy pork sausages and I won :) It’s a very useful magazine for foodies, tells you where the best shops, markets and restaurants are.

In my kitchen…..

Languishes this jar of German sour cherries that shouts “kommen sie hier” everytime I open the cupboard, I’m ignoring it as I’m not inspired, any suggestions?

Finally in my kitchen is……

I know, I know! now before you go striking me off your subscriber lists, I went to a hen party last weekend. My daughter Gilly is one of the bridesmaids to the daughter of old family friends this Saturday. We went on a hilarious bus journey to the Natal Midlands, a very picturesque area in our province. One of the stops was to the only vineyard in Kwa Zula Natal called Abingdon, which is fast earning quite a reputation in the wine world. We thoroughly enjoyed a wine tasting and a very lovely lunch of mezze type platters.

Then we went candle dipping and the prize for the best candles went to moi and I won the wonderful willies!

Whilst I was very erm…. delighted to be the recipient of something destined to send me to cloud nine I was very envious of one of the other ladies because she won this……

I really coveted the penis pasta, I wanted to post a blog to make the Food24 Editor Caro fall off her chair! *drops lip*

Oooh, naughty treats, Sue! :) Love both your beautiful plate – how touching to have something to remind you of your brother – and the gorgeous fish tea towel. And what an amazing spread of food!! Thanks for playing! You do realise that now you’ve tagged your post with the word “penis”, you might get all sorts of interesting commentors popping by? ;-)

  2. Chortle- a sound between a laugh and a choke- that was My reaction to the penis pasta! I love it and understand your envy.
The marshmallow treats just aren’t on the same page of delectables , are they?
I do love the bowl and fish towel- truly. I have some keepsake items that I love for the giver and for their own beauty- and I just like fish items. Towels, baskets, wall hangings- what is it about fish? I just like them. :)
Thank you so much for such a fun tour- and thanks for stopping by my kitchen.

  3. Hi there, thanks for visiting and I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

    Hi Sue
I love your plate. I understand it is special because it was a gift from your brother. I can remember who gave me what in my kitchen and that makes each item all the more unique.

I have a jar of sour cherries in my cupboard too. I will wait and see what you do with them.

    • I’m the same about who gave me what, maybe we should challenge each other……who uses their cherries first wins?! :)

  5. beautiful plate, Sue – luv the penis pasta – wonder who stocks them. Enjoy the weekend.

  6. Thanks Mitzi, the pasta came from England, I shall have to look for some when I am over there in Sept.

You have reminded me of a bottle of Morello cherries skulking in the back of my cupboard. What is it about these cherries that we are so reluctant to use them! I will be watching with keen interest to see what to do with them.

Now, about the penis pasta…..I bought a packet for my son for his 30th birthday, much to his amusement that his hitherto conversative mother would do so. Anyone in Sydney interested in purchasing these I bought them at a shop in Westfield Miranda.

    • I challenge you to use your cherries! The pasta amused me, you don’t see things like that here in South Africa. The brides sister bought loads of goodies over from England.

    Love the fruit bowl.
    The food platters look delicious.
Love the naught pasta and sweets….very cool

    • Thanks Debbie, those platters were damn good and we flattened the lot! The lady had to bring extra crackers and preserved figs as we were determined to finish the lovely cheeses.

  9. What a lovely post Sue, please let me know about this bus tour that you took–it looks amazing & i would love to try something like that.
I also remember who gave me what in my kitchen & i have a plate, bowl & tumbler (all in stainless steel) that belonged to my great grand parents!!
    Have a lovely weekend

  10. Hi Usha, we hired the bus, it wasn’t a tour as such, I will try and find out if there are any organised tours for you. I think you should post an ‘In My Kitchen’ and show us your goodies.

  11. I’m so envious of your photography. So beautiful! Congrats on winning the EatIn competition on Facebook. I remember that post, it looked sooooo yummy ;)

    • Thank you so much, I’m still learning and really need to do a course as I am a bit hit or miss.

  12. I have clearly been living under a rock because I ain’t seen any willy marshmallows or pasta for sale! I really don’t want to go to one of those adult shops so think I shall stick to living under my rock…
Love your bowl and the food looks absolutely fantastic!
    Have a fantastic weekend.
    :-) Mandy

    • Well that goes for both of us, I forgot to mention the penis straws we had to drink from! :) You have a good one yourself, think of my sore head on Sunday.

  13. Lordy re some of the ‘goodies’ in your kitchen. Re the sour cherries… drain them and make a clafoutis… or a cherry strudel! Oh, and there is a beautiful cherry cake on my web site, in which you can use them too! Thank you for sharing your kitchen.

    • Hi Lizzy, thanks for dropping in and thanks for the suggestions, would you like a Marshmallow while you’re here? *grin*

  15. Could be a great talking point at dinner for sure! :)

  16. That fruit bowl is really gorgeous, Sue. Thanks for sharing your kitchen goodies. I’ve never seen a marshmallow penis before, or a pasta one, or, come to think of it, a ‘straw’ one. Am I missing out? ;)

  17. O my word, Sue!! I am having problems with my Internet connection at home and thought I would quietely read some blogs at work, but I just laughed so loud, that everyone knows now what I am up to!!

  18. A sudden fixation on male dangly bits! (Well, mostly dangly.)
You have some amazing things in your kitchen.
Have they left an H and a G off the title of that mag, or only the G?

    • You should have seen what we had to make with play doh col!!!! :)
It’s definitely not a magazine about Heating.

  19. Ok, the pasta I could do but seeeeerriaaaaasly – I would gag on those marshmallows – being all soft and squishy when popping them into your mouth and all!! *runs and hides*

  20. I had one of the marshmallows the other day and it was just wrong! :)
