Dinner Divas

8 October 2012 in Dinner Divas

Recently I alluded to being part of something exciting, but I was unable to tell you what. I can now reveal that I am a contestant in the upcoming televison series Dinner Divas.

Dinner Divas is the first food blogger tv competition ever! The series is the brainchild of the lovable (and equally formidable) Anne Myers. Read more about the series here on Anne’s blog.

We filmed at Kitchen Cowboys Cookery School in Cape Town which is owned by Pete Goffe-Wood who was a judge in the recent  South African Masterchef series.

Here is Pete in the kitchen, his wife did all the catering for the 18 crew members and the contestants, he seems like a very pleasant person.

As you can see the set is a maze of wires and cables which kippy here managed to trip over in spectacular style creating bruises to match!

I arrived on set to find a giant poster on the wall of myself and another of the blogger I was to cook against.

The lovely Michéle Coleman is the host of the show.

Our fabulous food editor Caro De Waal of Food24 is one of the judges, the others are Andrew Lieber,  Aubrey Ngcungama (viewers of  the SA version of Come Dine with Me, might remember him?) Fernando Roman and Leila Padayachi.

Me about to cook, let me tell you, it is very nerve-wracking cooking in front of so many people and cameras, not to mention a strange oven!  Nerves aside, it was an amazing experience, I just hope I don’t come across too badly when it airs. South Africans can watch it at 8.30 Saturday 13th on SABC2…….I will be cringing and rocking in a corner somewhere clutching a bottle of something very strong!

  8. An amazing post Sue, all the right pics and the right words–excellent. I also am very nervous about all the feedback–positive or negative. My bed is not high enough for me to get under and i the stongest thing i can drink is coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Thanks Usha, I think we are all nervous as to how we come across. Don’t worry, I’ll drink your share as well!

  9. I will be watching the series – especially interested in seeing the food24 bloggers. Well done to all who appear in the series. I am sure that you all will come across as pros.

  10. Looking forward to watching you and all the other Diva’s in action Sue.

  11. Sue, this is an amazing post. Well done and thank you for being such a sport and a competent player! And as to your fears and other divas’ fears…. Nothing, but nothing can every-ever-ever compare to mine! And I cannot even hide anywhere … I need to sustain the fears for 13 weeks, every episode a fresh bunch of comments.

Your episode turned out to be SUCH a stunner (it is edited BTW) that I now regret not launching with it. But anyhow, this way, the viewers and keen fellow-bloggers and adoring family and friends can look forward to better and better … :-)

So sorry you’;re not here tomorrow, but I get it. Love and hugs Suzy gal … xxx

  12. Thanks Anne, I’m trusting you…..remember I WILL FIND YOU! :)
Good luck with the launch tomorrow, I will be thinking of you all.

  13. Ahhhh Sue – your wonderful wit and inimitable and infectious laugh sustained us all. We were all k***king ourselves! I cannot wait to see you in action in the kitchen my sista! *clutches her bottle of the good stuff ….. hehehe! Lotsa love xxx

  14. What a fantastic opportunity…I’m sure you’l be just brilliant!!!! Do I need a signed autograph…;-)

  15. Oh my goodness, I had no idea that you were so famous. :) I can’t even cook with hubby watching, so I’d be hopeless in such a situation. Congrats to you, Sue. I’m suitable impressed.
btw, I’m not getting notifications of your posts, as you might have guessed

    • I would check your spam folder again, they are probably hiding in there! :) If you would like to see the show send me your email and I can share it with you via dropbox.

  16. Damnit I missed it…are they going to do a repeat….how did you do…I am never going to stay away from blogging for so long again.

    • Send me your email address and I can share it with you on dropbox once it’s loaded, it’s a low resolution copy. My Mum in England was able to see the 1st episode this way.

  17. You were awesome sue.
    *hugs*

  18. I am mad as a snake that I missed it – had to go to a @$$@%%!! do, early. I’m sure you were brilliant, though. I do hope they replay the series at a time when I’m not otherwise obligated!

  19. Hey! As long as that dropbox thingie isn’t something heavy which will descend on my toes, please send! (I must admit I wouldn’t know one if it DID fall on my toes.)

    • Although it’s low resolution it’s a big file, people overseas don’t mind cos they are uncapped. Trust me, you can give it a miss! :)

  20. you were amazing Sue :)

  21. I finally got the show to go beyond the dishing out bit. Well done! You were fantastic! I must admit I feared for your chances seeing how good your competition seemed, but the proof of the pork was in the eating! Even if one judge didn’t.

    • Glad you got to see it, I will let you know when the my next episode is. There was some controversy about the judge not eating pork, general consensus on Twitter was that if you are judging a food competition you should be prepared to eat anything. Had I lost I think it might have become an issue, because we were not made aware of the fact.

  22. I also thought that was very silly on the part of the organisers. Imagine if I said I couldn’t go into a garden because I was allergic to a plant there, but judged it anyway!

  23. Sue.. congrats doll. Busy catching up and I’m so thrilled that you went through. I’ll look out for your next installment – missed your first while in the USA *sob*.. maybe they’ll run a repeat of the series one of these days. Sorry I’ve been MIA … it’s been a real tough year. Hugs xxx Di
