In My Kitchen – December 2012

10 December 2012 in In My Kitchen

Celia over at Fig Jam & Lime Cordial started this monthly round-up of what’s in peoples kitchens, I think it satisfies the nosiness in us all. If you want to see what other bloggers around the world have in their kitchen then click on this link.

In my kitchen….

….is a gift from my friend Nikki, lovely fresh veg from her Dad’s garden in Howick.

In my kitchen….

…is another win! I know, I know, I can hear you all saying “not again!” but in my defence I do enter a lot of competitions. I haven’t had time to have a good look at the book yet, but Himself has used the snazzy tongs with built-in LED light! Thank you Food and Home magazine. The Ultimate Braai (barbecue) Master is a tv program that has just aired in South Africa, the teams had to cook in some very difficult situations all over the country.

In my kitchen….

….is this cute little scoop I got in England, I bought a whole load of old cutlery for buttons and this was one of my finds. If you look closely you will see it measures 1/4 cup.

In my kitchen….

….is this slightly indulgent present to myself, Yuppiechef are having a 12 days of Christmas sale and this was offered for virtually half price…… box of happy!

In my kitchen…..

….is this gorgeous gift of delicious salt from my friend Rachel, I love the little glass container.

In my kitchen…

….are these little bowls, I use them for individual servings of pate, etc. I bought them at the Grahamestown festival years ago. It was a girly road trip, we saw some wonderful theatre, stayed in a very strange B & B that was stuck in a 70’s time-warp, ate out everyday at some fascinating places, some of which only operate during the festival. One night we would be eating in a church hall, the next in someone’s dining room, at one place Pieter Dirk Uys was on the next table.  I remember I drove us all the way home, over 12 hours and because we’d been partying for the entire week, everyone else slept the whole damn way!

  1. Sue, I love everything in your kitchen but my favourite would have to be your gorgeous little bowls – I have a thing for nunu little things. I have an ever growing little bowl collection oh and little jug collection too – heavens knows what I will ever do with all of them as I keep using the same ones over and over. Oh and next time you head to the Grahamstown Festival, you can stop over here on your way home for a night or 3, we are only an hour and a half outside of Grahamstown.
    Have a happy week ahead.
    :-) Mandy xo

    • Thanks Mandy, I remember you saying about your bowl and jug fetish! :) If I get down that way again I will certainly make a plan to get to meet you, we do get down your way every now and then as we have friends in East London and a cottage in Port Alfred. I would love to meet you.

  2. Some gorgeous stuff you have there, Sue. That cauliflower looks too divine. Congrats on you umpteenth win. :)

  3. Love whats in your kitchen and oh my that winning streak of yours-amazing. Would you know if The frying pans are still on offer at Yuppie chef

    • Unfortunately the pans were only on special that day, when I bought mine there were 34 left, an hour later they were all gone. They feature a different special each day so check them out.

  4. I love these IMK posts! Love the cute little scoop! I have never been to the Grahamstown festival but I have been to the KKNK in Oudshoorn loads of times!! I can just imagine what a ball it must have been with an all girlie trip!!

  5. A lucky winning streak must be stamped on your rear, Sue – you must have received my share as well – I just cannot win anything but then again I very rarely enter competitions. I find these posts satisfies my nosiness – luv the scoop – very cute.

  6. Wayne also has one of those snazzy braai tongs….he loves gadgets even more than I do.
Love the pan….have a thing for nice pans.

  7. Love how you describe Pieter Dirk Uys on the next table, having been to these festivals and had lots of fun being on the table is a very apt description :)

    • Of course I meant he was sat at the next table… was probably us that were dancing on the table! :) thanks for taking the time to comment.

  8. Bah humbug *grumbles with jealousy at Sue’s winning streak*. Small mercies that I’ve been invited to the Braai Master Wrap Party on Thursday though :P. You have some lovely things to brag about in your kitchen this month. I’m kicking myself for missing out on the pan but enjoy it ;) xx
